The site of St. Petersburg was first set foot during the Pánfilo de Narváez expedition in 1598, the first inland exploration in North America. The foundations of today's city were laid when John C. Williams bought these lands in 1875. The city's first newspaper, St. Petersburg Times, was established in 1884, and after the railroad arrived in 1888 and the first hotel was built. St. Petersburg became a town in 1892, and incorporated as a city in June 1903.
I think I got too immersed in the history of the city, now it's time to explain the features of the city. Locals named it St. Pete, and it is generally accepted. With an average of 361 days of sunshine throughout the year, St. Petersburg has earned the nickname The Sunshine City, and its wonderful climate has played an important role in the city's growth. Home to more than 250,000 residents, St. Petersburg is a city that makes you feel like you're on vacation every day, even when you're working.
