Charlotte's newest landmark, 300 South Tryon, celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, with business and city leaders getting an early look at the 25-story, Class A office tower, anchored by global asset management firm Barings.

The $330 million development spans the width of a city block and includes the office building and adjoining Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel, a boutique luxury hotel with signature restaurant and rooftop bar. The office building also will feature a separate French restaurant, coffee shop and is targeted for LEED GOLD design standards. A linear park along the edge of the development increases walkability between Charlotte's main thoroughfare, Tryon Street, and residential and entertainment opportunities in and around BB&T Ballpark and Romare Bearden Park.

"300 South Tryon is a reflection of Charlotte's growth and success, and we are thrilled to call it our home," said Tom Finke, chairman and CEO of Barings. "As our global headquarters, this investment also reflects Barings' belief in the future of this community."

Barings is a leading global financial services firm with more than $300 billion in assets under management and over 1,800 associates in offices in 16 countries. The company owns the development on behalf of its parent company, MassMutual, and occupies the top third of the new office tower.

300 South Tryon offers close proximity to the city's financial services and corporate leadership, as well as arts and entertainment, professional sports, restaurants and nightlife.

The building's sweeping sail design, cobalt glass, bold crown and exterior lighting make it recognizable on Charlotte's skyline. Interior design elements include a marble rotunda, flexible office space and floor-to-ceiling windows - as well as dedicated elevators and underground parking.

More than half of the 638,000 square feet of office space is leased, attracting other high-profile tenants including international law firms King & Spalding and Winston & Strawn.

"We found the perfect home for our growing organization in 300 South Tryon," said Brian Poplin, president and CEO of Elior North America, the nation's fifth-largest, and fastest growing food service company, which has relocated its headquarters. "The building is situated in the heart of Charlotte and the space is both beautiful and functional, which has allowed us to design a collaborative space that fits our needs and allows us to attract top talent looking to work at a prestigious Uptown address."
