The Gilded Iguana Surf Hotel, located in the heart of Playa Guiones­, one of the most consistent surf breaks in the world is currently undergoing a world-class renovation and expansion, designed by and for, surfers and outdoor lovers. Internationally acclaimed architect, Benjamin Garcia Saxe, designed The Gilded Iguana's transformation. Saxe and co-owner/project manager, Jeffrey Grosshandler, collaborated to modernize this storied hotel. They have retained the essence of its 40-year history as a local gathering spot for travelers and locals, while providing a 21st century experience with thoughtful touches.

"The Gilded Iguana has been many things to many people," says Grosshandler. "It has been a surf hangout, a night spot, a community meeting place, and everything in between. All of these things have been considered in the re-design process. This includes the careful rebuilding of The Gilded Iguana's restaurant and bar, as it is the heart and soul of not only the property but also the larger community of Nosara."

Guestrooms

The Gilded Iguana Surf Hotel has 29 beautifully redesigned hotel guest rooms, including a Surfer Suite for large groups. All guestrooms offer: innovative and secure surfboard storage, indoor/outdoor living space with balconies, indoor and outdoor showers, high speed internet, luxurious bedding and linens, high quality fixtures and finishes, and artisan craftsmanship. The renovation process included construction of a new pool, kids pool, and pool bar by Joan Roca, top Central American "Master Pool Designer." A property-wide organic bug repellant system provides a mosquito free setting.
