The Coocepts Team is a Hong Kong-based design company which has a team of innovators who would like to create "Cool Concepts” for daily life. The Coocepts Team was founded in 2015 and designed their flagship product, Levimoon, in January 2017. They started Levimoon Project on Kickstarter.com and fully funded successfully. I talked to Kelvin So, Co-Founder and CEO of The Coocepts Team, about the Kickstarter Project success of The World's First Wireless Charging Levitating Moon Light, Levimoon.
Kelvin, before we start talking about Levimoon, please tell us about yourself and Coocepts team.
We are a group of people who love cool products a lot. We believe that without creativity, life would be boring. In order to share our innovations with our audience, we created Coocepts. Coocepts is a team of innovators bringing "Cool Concepts” to infuse your life.
What was the motivation for Coocepts to start Levimoon developing?
We are crazy about the moon, that is why we made our first 3D print moon light in late 2015. But we don't like the moon light to lay on the table. To us, planets like the moon should be floating in the middle of the air, not lay on the ground or harnessed to a wall. So we look for different options in making the moon light floating in the air. This is how we started.
What are the main features of Levimoon? How do you define Levimoon, is it stylish or functional?
Levimoon is the world's first levitating moon light, it is also the only one which can be charged wirelessly. To us, Levimoon is one of the most stylish mood light that will surprise anyone who got their first sight on it. You will never see anything close to Levimoon at the moment. The moon shell of our Levimoon is totally different from our non-floating version. We rework on the balancing of the moon shell and at the same time to rework the shadows on the moon to bring the closest appearance of the moon to the Levimoon. On the other hand, the levitation system is also a very new technology since we have to make it possible to charge the built-in battery of the moon while the moon light is floating over the dock. Unlike all other wireless charging device(like smartphones) in the market, Levimoon can be charged which it is levitating in the middle of the air over the dock. There is no other product can achieve this solution at the moment but we have successfully implemented it to our Levimoon. We spent a lot of time in getting the solution done and make it as small as possible so that the whole set of the Levimoon will look good.
What were the key points of Levimoon's Kickstarter project success?
I will say the uniqueness of the Levimoon made the project success. At the very beginning of our campaign, we didn't have any pre-launch event, we didn't contact any media about our project. We just launched our campaign on Kickstarter silently. The first couple of days is just like a nightmare, not many people know about the project. Some days later, we are so lucky that our campaign just caught some media's attention and they start to share our campaign story which let more people outside Kickstarter know about our campaign. We didn't contact any media actively for our campaign but still, we can get this project funded, what I can say is the uniqueness of the Levimoon made the campaign success.
Also, the innovation of the project is also the key points in having your Kickstarter project get funded or not. Kickstarter is not a normal online store, it is a very special platform. People who are on Kickstarter always look for some that can not be found in the market.
Could you briefly tell us about Coocepts and your other products?
All our Coocepts products didn't run through a crowdfunding process. Since Levimoon's idea is a totally new concept of a mood light, we want to make sure that the market also like to see something like Levimoon before we actually put it to production. This is why we bring Levimoon to Kickstarter.
How do you envision the future of Coocepts?
We are so proud of Coocepts, and we are so confident in Coocepts' product. We received so many feedbacks from our customers letting us know that how they like our products and what they want us to achieve for us in the new products. So Coocepts will have more innovative products this year and it is really a good sign of the future.
What is your advice to other entrepreneurs who want to start a new project on Kickstarter?
To start a new project on Kickstarter, remember to start with a pre-launch and reach out to the media as many as you can before you launch your project on Kickstarter. There is no magic on the crowdfunding projects, working properly is the only way to get your project success on Kickstarter.
What is the importance of Social Media for your brand?
We are not very good at Social Media but social media really play a main role in the whole story. Social media can bring you closer to your supporter and be having a better communication with them. Learn the needs of your supporters is very important. Also, social media is a very good media in letting your supporting know the process of the campaign. We have to keep all our supporters in the loop in order to make them comfortable while they are waiting for your product.
