We are always looking for all-in-one solutions in order to save time. We pay attention to every step of our daily routines from our eating habits to the financial investments we prefer. But some of us find solutions for all of us. His long-lasting daily skin care routine triggered Brian Oh to find a solution. He thought that if he could create a skincare product that makes this routine faster and better, it would be an effective solution for everyone who has limited time for their daily skincare. And he developed VENN Skincare Age-Reversing All-In-One Concentrate. I had the chance to do an interview with Brian Oh, Founder and CEO of VENN Skincare, to get detailed information about All-In-One solution and the future plans of VENN Skincare.
Before asking my questions about VENN Skincare, I would like to learn more about you. Could you tell us about your career before VENN?
I was a corporate attorney in New York, and later in Silicon Valley. In New York, I represented private equities, hedge funds, financial institutions, and companies in connection with their bank finance needs. In Silicon Valley, I worked with startups and venture capitals.
How did you decide to launch VENN? What inspired you?
I’ve been always interested in skincare. When I was practicing law in New York, I needed a skincare routine that was not only effective, but also safe, simple, and convenient. My own multi-step skincare routine was overwhelming—managing multiple products, including toner, essence, serum, ampoule, lotion, cream, and oil. The traditional skincare regimen didn’t seem tailored to busy, modern lifestyles, and I couldn’t find a good solution. So, with my co-founder who is VENN’s Chief Scientific Officer and the skincare industry’s foremost chemist, I decided to launch VENN to create products that I couldn’t find in the current skincare industry. This is also the reason why VENN’s first product is an “all-in-one” product that is focused on streamlining skincare routine by delivering comprehensive benefits through a single step.
Please tell us about VENN Age-Reversing All-In-One Concentrate. What is ALL-IN-ONE concept?
VENN Age-Reversing All-In-One Concentrate is a visionary approach that streamlines the skincare regimen in just one step. Scientifically formulated with VENN’s proprietary Concentric TechnologyTM, the all-in-one concentrate is a multi-correctional formula that combines 15 of the world’s most powerful, naturally-derived antioxidants and high-performance peptides for brighter, firmer, and younger looking skin.
The all-in-one concentrate is clinically tested to hydrate skin for 24 hours, improve skin’s elasticity and firmness, reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, brighten skin’s appearance, minimize discoloration, and smooth and soften skin.
The “all-in-one” concept means that the formula can deliver comprehensive benefits through a single skincare step without compromising on the efficacy. More simply put, our “all-in-one” formula will replace your toner, essences, ampoules, serums, moisturizer, and oils, in terms of efficacy. Our all-in-one concentrate was tested through robust human clinical studies to show that it effectively delivers comprehensive skincare benefits that you otherwise would need to use multiple products to obtain.
The “all-in-one” also means that you are able to cut down on any repetitive chemicals in your skincare routine and thereby “detox” your skin. The concentrate uses only non-toxic, clean ingredients, and by offering a streamlined skincare approach, it limits repetitive exposure to toxic chemicals.
What makes VENN unique and different from competitors?
What separates VENN from other clean beauty brands is its proprietary Concentric TechnologyTM grounded on over 20 years of skincare research and development in South Korea. The technology is composed of the following three patent-pending components that reinforce each other to ensure ingredients are fully dissolved and effectively delivered deeply into the skin:
Solubilization Technology: Compound K, the main anti-aging bioactive component of ginseng, is difficult to use in cosmetics due to its very low solubility and hydrophobic properties. It has partial solubility in solvents such as pyridine, ethanol, and methanol, but when high concentrations of Compound K are dissolved using such solvents, precipitation occurs over time and such solvents are harmful to human skin. VENN, for the first time, overcomes these issues by water-solubilizing Compound K and effectively using it as a key ingredient.
Hydration Technology: Generates hydration from within the skin by creating water-balloon-like vehicles containing moisturizing actives that can penetrate deeply; forms a moisture barrier above the skin’s surface to prevent water from escaping.
Delivery Technology: Creates multi-layer vehicles that mimic the skin’s structure to deliver all benefits faster and deeper.
Concentric TechnologyTM is also the engine behind the “all-in-one” efficacy of our concentrate. Over 89% of our all-in-one formula are bioactives, and these bioactives are carefully formulated so that the synergy among the bioactives are maximized and each bioactive delivers its benefits without conflicting with other bioactives and becoming neutralized. With our Concentric TechnologyTM, we are able to effectively process each ingredient and deliver the bioactives deeply into the skin so that all the benefits are delivered and realized through a single formula.
Cosmetics is a sector where competition is experienced at a high level. What is your marketing strategy for putting forward your brand in this sector?
What differentiates VENN from other clean beauty brands is its advanced, innovative science. Our marketing strategy is to educate people on our science and ingredients and explain how and why our products deliver real results rather than simply stating that they do. Currently, there is a rise of “skintellectualism” with a wider consumer demand for high science and in-depth information regarding ingredients and formulas. VENN, with its 20+ years of skincare research and proprietary technologies, hits the mark for “skintellectualism” and can address this consumer demand. Our social marketing strategy, mainly driven through our Instagram(@vennskincare), is focused on providing meaningful, educational contents to build brand awareness.
You have achieved the success of VENN by a single formula. Will this situation trigger you to create a new project instead of improving VENN?
We are constantly striving to improve our brand and create new and innovative products. We entered into a R&D partnership with Asia Seed Co., Ltd, which is a public company in South Korea (listed on KOSDAQ) that researches and develops functional vegetables and vegetable seeds. Our partnership with Asia Seed is focused on creating new skincare ingredients using functional vegetables and fruits. The CEO of Asia Seed is also on VENN’s Scientific Advisory Board, and has been advising us on the development of our new products, with our first new product launching in August. Asia Seed tried to recycle sheets used for facial masks by planting vegetable seeds in them. They discovered that the seeds couldn’t grow and quickly died, because many of these sheets still contained toxic chemicals that were used to bleach and process them. So, our new products launching this year are mask series that don’t require any sheet application. One of them is a mist mask, where you spray as a mist, and once the formula touches your skin, it forms a hydrogel layer that eventually absorbs into your skin. Each of our new products will be equally innovative and revolutionary as our all-in-one concentrate.
