Interview with Jacquin Brada, Co-Founder of Designed by Man

Designed by Man is the result of the idea of converting a jerrycan into a bar. I asked Jacquin Brada about the story of Jerrycan Bar.

Jacquin Brada and Dean van Vliet come up with the idea of creating a small secret bar by using jerrycan. In 2016, after getting positive feedback on social media, they decided to establish Designed by Man. They have also expanded their collections by designing new products. I talked with Jacquin Brada, Co-Founder of Designed by Man, to learn more about Jerrycan Bar and their future plans.

Jacquin, before start to talking about Designed by Man, could you tell us about your background and design experiences?

My colleague Dean is the designer of Designed by Man. We both have studied to become furniture makers. After this study, Dean did product development study at the university.

How did you decide to establish Designed by Man? What inspired you?

Dean came one night to me with this idea. I thought it was very cool, so we took a beer from the fridge and started designing. After the design was ready we produced the first prototype. We pitched it on social media and did not know what happened. So many likes and reactions people wanted to order our product. It was amazing.

Could you tell us about Designed by Man and your team?

At Designed by Man we have 2 directors myself and Dean. We have 3 factory workers: Ryan, Leanne, and Stefano. At the office, we have one sales guy his name is Alexander. And together we are Designed by Man

How did you come up with the Jerrycan Bar idea?

It was inspired from a DIY project on youtube thought this could work. So we produced our prototype and launched it.

What are the features of Jerrycan Bar? What type of jerrycans and other materials do you use?

The Jerrycan bar is produced from on original steel Jerrycan. We mount the can open and place a handmade wooden interior within the can. The jerrycan bar can hold 1 bottle of strong liquor, 6 cans of soda (33cl) and 4 cans of mixed drinks (25cl)

How many different interior separation options do you offer in Jerrycan Bar?

In the jerrycan bar, we have now 4 different interiors. The bar, Wine bar, gin bar and the his & her bar. We are continuously developing new variations.

You do not have only Jerrycan Bar in your collection. Could you tell us about your other Jerrycan designs like Jerrycan AquaCan, Design Jerrycans, and planters?

That is correct we also make cabinets, Aquaria, gift sets, planter, lunchboxes & other gadgets. We want to stay unique and make very much different variations of products with the Jerrycan. And there are lots of models coming up. For example the Jerrycan BBQ!!
