This special day dates back to 1572 and is celebrated nationwide on the 10th of June each year. The birth story of Portugal Day, the official name is Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas, is found in the national poet Luís de Camões' poem Os Lusíadas. On every the 10th of June, in Portugal, public institutions, schools, and many private companies are on the national daybreak.
Fireworks, concerts, and outdoor entertainments are held in cities around the country on this special day. Bacalhau, the Portuguese national flavor, is served to all guests participating in the events together with another historical landmark, Vinho do Porto.
It is a beautiful day for travelers who want to visit Portugal and get to know the local cultures. No matter which city or town you are visiting in Portugal on the 10th of June, you can experience national day celebrations and participate in traditional entertainment.
