Boeing and Air India announced the scope of their new collaboration. It has been announced that Air India has chosen Boeing's family of fuel-efficient airplanes to expand its fleet. In addition to the purchase process of the three models, this comprehensive agreement also covers decades of maintenance and support for the Air India fleet.
Air India will initially purchase 190 737 MAXs, including 737-8s and 737-10s models, 20 787 Dreamliners and 10 777X airplanes. Air India, which will add Boeing's newest fuel-efficient airplanes to its fleet, will have the option to purchase 50 more 737 MAXs and 20 more 787-9s.
Air India, which has ordered 290 advanced Boeing jets, plans to expand its international flight routes with 20 787 Dreamliners and then take it further with an optional order for 20 more. These 290 fuel-efficient airplanes will enable Air India to expand both its domestic and international network.
In addition, fuel-efficient airplanes will contribute to a sustainable future. The new 737 MAX airplanes purchased are expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 20% compared to airplanes in Air India's current fleet. Offering more passenger capacity compared to the 787-8s model currently in Air India's fleet, the Boeing 787-9 will offer both longer range and 25% fuel savings.
By adding Boeing 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner and 777X airplanes to its fleet, Air India not only took its expansion plan to the next level, but also demonstrated its determination to become a world-class global airline.
